Raymond Colton, M.S.
Founder & President
Raymond Colton founded VR Analytical in 2001. As president, he oversees financial operations and manages strategic growth opportunities for the company. Colton earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Clarkson University in New York and a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington. He also obtained an MBA from New York University. Colton is the author of numerous presentations, published papers, and a book chapter. He was also the lead author for the first two papers about extractables and leachables published by the Bio-System Pharm Alliance (BPSA) in Bio-Process International. He is a member of the Parenteral Drug Association, the Bio-Process Systems Alliance, and the Oregon Bioscience Association.
Sarah Brophy
Senior Scientist/Study Manager
Sarah has been with VR Analytical since 2006, overseeing E&L studies and also contributing to VR’s strategic planning, growth, and staff development. Sarah works closely with customers to develop and design their E&L programs, managing studies through their lifecycle, and determining next steps when needed. Sarah earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, and has co-authored multiple scientific presentations.
Stan Gofinch
Senior Scientist/Lab Manager
Stan has been with VR Analytical since 2008. His work includes multiple facets of project support and facilities management. Prior to joining VR Stan spent 8 years in the software development field and six years in Biopharma R&D. Stan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.
Lori Reed
Senior Scientist/Elemental Group Manager
Lori has been with VR Analytical since 2012, overseeing and growing the trace elemental analysis laboratory. She has been working in elemental analysis for over 24 years, including previous experience in a GLP regulated toxicology laboratory. Lori earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Eastern Washington University in Cheney, Washington.
Sara Wyland, M.S.
Quality Operations Manager
Sara joined VR Analytical in 2003, and has since been intimately involved with the development and continual improvement of the Quality System. Sara ensures processes are designed to lead to the accurate and reliable generation of data with a high degree of scientific integrity, are cGMP compliant and maximize efficiency without sacrifice to quality. Sara holds both a B.S. and M.S. from Oregon State University in natural sciences.
Cate Hass, M.S.
Project Manager
After starting her work in the laboratory at VR Analytical in 2004, Cate naturally migrated to project management in 2007. Cate is involved with the customer and projects from initial study design through the approval of the final report. Cate has a Bachelor of Art’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Genetics.
Trent Volz, Ph.D.
Principal Scientist
Trent serves as a Principal Scientist for VR Analytical. In this role he performs cGMP-regulated analytical testing to detect and identify trace unknown organic and inorganic extractable and leachable contaminants in bio/pharmaceutical formulations. Prior to working with VR Analytical, Trent did a neuropharmacology post-doctoral fellowship with the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University of Utah, and served as a research assistant professor with joint appointments to the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and the Interdepartmental Program in Neuroscience. Trent earned his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from Washington State University and his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees from the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
