High Resolution Accurate Mass LC-MS-MS with Agilent 1290 Infinity II UHPLC/ 6550 iFunnel Q-Tof

An ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) system with ultraviolet (UV) and quadrupole-time of flight (QTof) mass spectrometer (MS) detectors can separate and identify semi- and non-volatile organic compounds in liquid solutions. This system can detect compounds that absorb UV light, ionize by positive or negative electrospray ionization (ESI), or ionize by positive or negative atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI).

The 1290 Infinity II system can run HPLC separations and is useful in UHPLC mode for tough chromatographic challenges in complex matrices that are not amenable to standard HPLC techniques.

The 6550 Q-Tof can collect high resolution accurate mass, isotope ratio, and tandem MS-MS fragmentation data to provide structural confirmation of target compounds or ab initio identification of unknown compounds such as contaminants and reaction products with high levels of sensitivity using state of the art iFunnel technology. When combined with the data processing capabilities of Mass Hunter this LC-MS-MS system is a very powerful tool for your analytical needs and challenges.

Standard LC-MS techniques  are often unable to identify unknown compounds because the measured values (e.g., 409.1 m/z) are not sufficient to determine molecular formulas. High resolution accurate mass measurements  (e.g., 409.1625 m/z) combined with isotope ratio data can be used to determine the molecular formula of an unknown compound. Once the molecular formula has been determined, tandem MS-MS fragmentation data can be used to elucidate the structure of an unknown. When combined, this data can enable the unambiguous identification of unknowns.
